Atlantis…

hade premiär igår. Verkar inte vara något för den ortodoxe antikbrukaren, men funkar uppenbarligen ändå, åtminstone om vi får tro The Telegraph:

Teleported, somehow, from a 21st century submarine into a mythical (and unexpectedly bone dry) ancient land called Atlantis, Jason found himself instantly chased by CGI dragons and hairy oiks with swords before being offered grudging refuge by an unlikely pair going by the names Pythagoras (Robert Emms) and Hercules (Mark Addy). Such a seemingly crass conflation of mythical and mathematical simply should not work. Just as bolting together bits and bobs of Minoan Civilization #101 and calling it Atlantis (ruled by one King Minos) shouldn’t work; or taking one classical figure and blithely recasting him as another (our Argonaut-free hero Jason’s first challenge was to slay the Minotaur in the labyrinth, traditionally Theseus’s job) shouldn’t either. But the simple fact is that, as action-packed, big fun Saturday evening entertainment this really did work – and with admirable brio.
