A Bewingad Review

Det är inte varje dag som Nike från Samothrake får inleda en skivrecension:

The esteemed French adventurer and statesman André Malraux was delighted with the accidental mutilation of the Greek statue “Winged Victory of Samothrace.” He called it “a masterpiece of destiny,” suggesting that the natural disaster helped turn it into a timeless icon of Western art. Likely destroyed in an earthquake on the Aegean island of Samothrace, this famous statue (currently residing inside the Louvre) is so very symbolic of our culture’s ideals. The image of a headless Nike bringing divine favour could mirror our lack of tangible identity and our drive to create things in hopes of discovering that identity. One wing is an identical cast of the only remaining wing, reflecting our love of reproduction as well as our inherent desire to create or ”fly” beyond what we previously deemed possible. The Hellenistic taste with which the luscious forms and drapery flow is honored by the glossy films, fashion magazines, and mercantile glamour of the 21st century.
